Acteon brings Upstream Engineering into its fold, upping offshore engineering ante

Business & Finance

The UK-headquartered Acteon, a provider of data-driven, engineering-led solutions across the lifecycle of offshore energy infrastructure, has bolstered its offshore engineering capabilities with the acquisition of Houston-based Upstream Engineering, which offers engineering and project management services to the upstream and midstream oil and gas sectors.

2H, Acteon’s engineering consultancy, has confirmed the purchase of Texas-based engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) specialist Upstream Engineering, which expands the UK player’s engineering capability, said to create one of the industry’s most comprehensive fixed platform offerings.

The Houston-headquartered firm has been delivering fixed platform solutions across the Americas for more than two decades, supporting early production, marginal field developments, and infrastructure extensions, including platforms engineered for water depths up to 150 meters, more than doubling 2H’s existing fixed platform depth capability.

Brice Bouffard, Acteon’s Chief Executive Officer, commented: “We’re delighted to welcome Upstream Engineering into the Acteon family. Their long-established platform engineering expertise complements 2H’s subsea and SURF strengths.

“Operators are working in increasingly cost-constrained environments and are looking for simpler, leaner and more capital efficient development solutions. Together, we can deliver exactly that – an integrated, technically rigorous and commercially attractive offering across the full engineering spectrum.”

Acteon claims that the combined portfolio spans from nearshore terminals and jetties to complex offshore structures. This acquisition is described as a timely response to shifting market conditions, as operators worldwide seek lower capex development concepts and leaner field architectures.

In light of this, Acteon elaborates that it is strengthening its ability to offer “integrated, efficient and commercially attractive solutions across the life of field.” By integrating Upstream Engineering’s platform design and turnkey delivery expertise with 2H’s riser, foundations, and subsea, umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF) capabilities, the company will offer operators a complete suite of engineering services.

The end-to-end capability is perceived to bring together minimum facility platforms, subsea architecture, deepwater systems, and nearshore infrastructure into a single, integrated offering.

Ronnie Smith, President at Upstream Engineering, underlined: “Joining Acteon and integrating with 2H marks an exciting new chapter for our team. We’ve built our reputation on reliable, cost cost-effective platform solutions, and Acteon’s global presence and subsea expertise allow us to broaden and elevate that offering.

“Together, we can accelerate technology development, expand our engineering scope and deliver more innovative field concepts to customers around the world. It’s a combination that creates real value for operators and for our people.”

Acteon has been a busy bee with multiple new assignments in the bag, including a three-year deal with Brazil’s Petrobras.
