AGR Expert to Speak at SPE Well Construction Forum

AGR Aberdeen-based Rock Mechanics Engineer and Senior Geoscientist has been invited to address a high-level energy industry gathering in the United States which will bring together specialists from around the world to consider ways of improving oil well drilling and completion efficiency.

Phil Bailey, a Rock Mechanics Engineer and Senior Geoscientist, will be among the specially selected speakers at the SPE Well Construction Forum in Santa Fe, New Mexico, next week.

SPE Forums are unique, by invitation only, events run by the Society of Petroleum Engineers that bring together top technologists, innovators and managers to address specific industry challenges. Their objective is to create a collaborative, idea generating arena that stimulates new ideas and innovation about future challenges facing the oil and gas industry.

The aim of next week’s forum is to identify key performance metrics in value from wells, cost of wells, speed of delivery by assessing bench marks and consequences leading to an understanding of how a step-change improvement can be achieved in equipment and process reliability.

Phil’s presentation at the event will pose the question, “What is wrong with the way the industry plans and develops projects.”

Phil said: “It is a real honour to be asked to speak at this important SPE Forum and I am looking forward very much to taking part and learning from the expertise and experience of the other speakers and attendees.

“The purpose of my presentation is to spark discussion within the group and I will be underlining our belief in the importance of teams working in parallel to enhance the feasibility of projects and get them past stage gates more frequently.”
