The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) announced that the F/V Arctic Prowler, the first large commercial fishing vessel built in Alaska, has been christened at AIDEA’s Ketchikan Shipyard.

Alaska Ship & Drydock (ASD), a subsidiary of Vigor Industrial, operates Ketchikan Shipyard for AIDEA.

The 136 ft. freezer longliner vessel, built by ASD for Alaska Longline Company, is also the first vessel to be constructed in Ketchikan Shipyard’s new 70,000 square foot Assembly and Production Hall. “AIDEA is proud to be part of Ketchikan Shipyard,” said AIDEA Executive Director Ted Leonard. “Our work in partnership with Alaska Ship & Drydock, Vigor Industrial, the City of Ketchikan and Ketchikan Gateway Borough has helped make the Shipyard a center of economic activity for the region.

Ketchikan Shipyard builds and services all types of vessels with a primary focus on vessels operating in Alaska waters.

Ketchikan Shipyard also serves as the primary maintenance facility for the Alaska Marine Highway System.

The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority is a public corporation of the state.

AIDEA’s purpose is to promote, develop and advance the general prosperity and economic welfare of the people of Alaska.
