Air Products’ technology and equipment selected for Chinese electric-driven LNG project

Industrial gases company Air Products has signed an agreement to supply its proprietary LNG process technology and equipment to French engineering company Technip Energies for an electric-driven LNG project in China.

Last month, Technip Energies was selected by Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group and Shaanxi Gas Group to provide the process design package (PDP) and front-end engineering and design (FEED) work for the 3 million cubic metres per day Xi’An LNG Emergency Reserve & Peak Regulation project in China.

The deal also included the supply of key equipment for a single 0.8 million ton per annum (mtpa) LNG train.

The LNG equipment will be built at Air Products’ Port Manatee, Florida facility. The company will also provide technical advisory services for the installation and commissioning, and performance testing when operational.

This is set to be the largest liquefaction unit worldwide to date using a single electric motor-driven mixed refrigerant compressor, which will enable low-carbon LNG production to help meet the growing demand for clean energy. The LNG produced will be distributed to the Chinese market for use in residential and industrial applications.

“Air Products is honoured to be selected for this project and again work with Technip Energies to provide our unrivalled liquefaction process technology and equipment to the dynamic Chinese mid-scale LNG market. This project demonstrates how we are helping customers to optimize their facility’s overall performance with safe, sustainable solutions to achieve both production and environmental goals,” said Samir J. Serhan, Air Products’ Chief Operating Officer.

Air Products’ proprietary LNG process technology, equipment and advisory services will also be delivered to Sempra Infrastructure’s Port Arthur LNG Phase 1 project in Jefferson County, Texas.
