Under the contract, Aker Solutions will build on its process industry expertise within green hydrogen to provide additional technical assurance and project support to Statera during the front-end engineering and design (FEED) phase.

The FEED work for the first phase of the Kintore Hydrogen project was awarded to American-Australian engineering company Worley.

The proposed FEED study has a target completion date in 2024 and the project is expected to be ready for a final investment decision in 2025. The full 3 GW of production is expected to be online by the 2030s.

The Kintore Hydrogen development aims to take surplus electricity generated by Scottish offshore wind to produce green hydrogen for the decarbonization of power generation facilities and carbon-intensive industrial clusters across the country.

Once complete, it will be one of the largest of its type in Europe, providing the UK gas network with a large supply of green hydrogen and up to 60% of the Scottish Government’s target for low-carbon production, according to the developer.
