Aker Solutions to Provide Internships to Students in Indonesia

Aker Solutions has signed a two-year agreement with Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Politeknik Batam to provide internships to students in Indonesia. The internship programme will be carried out at Aker Solutions’ manufacturing centre in Batam, Indonesia.

Under the agreement, Aker Solutions will provide on-the-job training opportunities to 12 students every year, especially those from the mechanical engineering faculty, which is related to Aker Solutions’ field of work. Duration of the internship is six months and students will gain valuable experience that will help them gain entry into the oil and gas industry. Students will also be considered for full time employment with Aker Solutions when they graduate, if a position is available.

Mike Lussier, Aker Solutions’ general manager for the Batam manufacturing centre says: “We aim to be a preferred neighbour to the community where we operate and this is just one way trying to be a good corporate citizen in Indonesia”.

He continues: “The objective of this training is to expose university students to industrial practices and real job environment early so that they are more adaptable when they finally enter the job market. As a global company with world class manufacturing facility in Batam, we feel that we can help improve oil and gas knowledge of Indonesian students and make them a better work force in the industry”.

All interns will be paid a salary that complies with local manpower regulations. In addition, students from ITB and UGM who undertake the programme will be provided accommodation and return air tickets since these universities are not located at the Batam island.

Aker Solutions operates a surface wellhead manufacturing centre in Batam. The centre, which has been in operation since 1992, went through a major expansion in 2009 to expand its capacity by more than 50%. Aker Solutions places great emphasis on training and developing local talents. Aker Solutions employs 415 employees in Batam, of which 98 percent are Indonesians. This manufacturing centre supplies surface wellheads that serve the oil and gas companies globally.
