American Samoa Set for Installation of Second Submarine Cable

American Samoa Hawaii Cable is considering installation of another submarine fiber cable to serve the country, the director of the company Adolfo Montenegro said.

According to Radio New Zealand, Mr. Montenegro said that the cable would probably connect in Fiji.

The system would be set up for 10-40 gigabytes per second but may be designed for even greater capacities.

With the increased usage of internet, the American Samoa Governor Togiola at a cabinet meeting expressed the need for an increase of cable capacity and the need for elimination of the dependence on the Hawaii-American Samoa Cable.
