Amurskaya Freighter Sunk in Okhotsk Sea, Russia

Rescuers are continuing the search for the survivors of the accident that occured when a cargo ship carrying around 700 tons of gold ore sank last month in the Russia’s Okhotsk Sea.

The wreck of the Amurskaya freighter was discovered by divers on the seafloor around 25 meters deep, but they didn’t find lifeboats or the bodies of crewmembers, which may be the sign that they’ve survived, RT reports.

One of the rescuers told that the going inside of the vessel could be very dangerous because of the freighter’s narrow corridors and ladders, according to the Interfax news agency.

Because of the risk searching the wreck might cause, rescuers suspended the underwater operation, and they cosider that the recovery of the cargo would also be difficult.

Amurskaya sank on October 28, after sending a distress signal when it was traveling across the Okhotsk Sea.
