APL Repeats San Pedro Bay Ports Air Quality Award Win

For the second year running, APL has won the annual San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) Air Quality Award.

Jointly presented by the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach, the 2013 CAAP Air Quality Award lauds APL’s “Innovative Air Quality Improvement Technologies” and commitment to reducing the environmental impact of ocean transportation.

As part of this overall commitment, APL is particularly engaged in innovative air quality improvement technologies, including the installation of a seawater scrubber aboard the APL England.

“The selection of APL as the 2013 recipient of the CAAP Air Quality Award is a meaningful acknowledgement of our efforts and contributions in developing effective environmental solutions,” said APL Regional President for the Americas Gene Seroka. “This award is further evidence of our vision and commitment to our customers, vendors and industry peers.”

APL Americas Director of Security and Environment Robert Clark accepted the Air Quality Award on behalf of the company yesterday.

Last year, APL won the same CAAP award for demonstrating “Air Quality Leadership at the Corporate Level”, and in April this year, an APL containership, APL Yangshan, received the Singapore Registry of Ships Green Ship of the Year accolade for its outstanding Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) rating.

The company is on course to reduce carbon emissions 30 percent from its shipping operations by 2015, based on CO2 levels audited in 2009.
