Atlantis Subsea Farming Concept Reduced to Two Development Licenses
- Business & Finance
The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries has awarded development licenses to Atlantis Subsea Farming concept, but limiting the project to 2 licenses out of 6 the company applied for back in January 2016.
Atlantis Subsea Farming was established last year after Norwegian company AKVA group teamed up with Sinkaberg-Hansen and Egersund Nethas to develop submersible fish-farming facilities for salmon on an industrial scale.
The work on Atlantis started in summer 2014, and experts from all three companies have been involved in the work with the concept.
Atlantis aims to achieve production gains and improve fish welfare by submerging the facilities, as they will be far less exposed to the environmental and physical conditions than in a surface position.
The company said it will consider whether to appeal Directorate’s decision or not.
