Gladstone Harbour is being dredged in preparation for an expansion to cater for the gas boom, reports theaustralian.com.

Environmental expert blames the muddy state of Gladstone Harbour for illness in marine life.

In his opinion, dredging caused this situation.

First the dredgaholic Gladstone ports dredge over the limit and due to human and fish illness are asked to stop politely in September 2011 by the previous government,” said environmental expert Dr Andrew Jeremijenko.

The ports corporation has been approached for comment.
