Australia: Searcher Starts Mariner 2D Non-Exclusive Seismic Survey

Searcher Seismic, an Australian-based company focused on either reprocessing existing regional datasets or acquiring new seismic data has begun with the Mariner 2D Non-Exclusive Seismic Survey.

The survey comprises 3,100km of long offset 2D non-exclusive seismic data and 9,700km of reprocessing. Over 1,600km of new data has already been acquired. The survey is located in the Browse Basin, over the Proposed 02 & 03 2012 blocks.

The survey provides a modern grid of data (Approximately 5 x 5km) and includes a substantial unexplored Upper Jurassic graben, which are commonly associated with prolific oil source rocks elsewhere on the Northwest Shelf (for example, Dingo Claystone in the Carnarvon Basin, and Vulcan Fm in the Vulcan Graben). This new data provides the first opportunity to evaluate the upper Jurassic petroleum system. The area also has significant potential for large gas prospects in Plover Fm and the underlying Triassic section.
