Baker Hughes weekly rig count: Six offshore rigs enter service

Baker Hughes Incorporated posted its Weekly Rig Count report on Friday, April 11, 2014. Six offshore rigs began drilling in the U.S. this week.

BHI Rig Count: U.S. + 13 to 1831 rigs

U.S. Rig Count is up 13 rigs from last week to 1831, with oil rigs up 19 to 1517, gas rigs down 6 to 310, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 4.

U.S. Rig Count is up 60 rigs from last year at 1771, with oil rigs up 130, gas rigs down 67, and miscellaneous rigs down 3.

The U.S. Offshore rig count is 53, up 6 rigs from last week, and up 4 rigs year over year.

BHI Rig Count: Canada – 23 to 212 rigs

Canadian Rig Count is down 23 rigs from last week to 212, with oil rigs down 17 to 93, and gas rigs down 6 to 119.

Canadian Rig Count is up 56 rigs from last year at 156, with oil rigs up 10, and gas rigs up 46.

BHI Well Count: U.S. Onshore – 230 to 8853 wells for Q1 2014

BHI Well Count is down 230 wells or 3% from Q4 2013 to 8853 wells.

BHI Well Count is up 319 wells or 4% from Q1 2013 at 8534 wells.

The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the United States, Canada and international markets. Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity. Baker Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
