BC Ferries’ second LNG-fueled vessel departs Poland

BC Ferries’ Salish Eagle, the second of three new Salish Class LNG-fueled vessels departed the Remontowa shipyard in Gdansk, Poland and set course for British Columbia. 

The vessel set off on its 10,440 nautical mile journey on February 11 and will take approximately 45 to 55 days to reach British Columbia. Remontowa Shipbuilding is responsible for delivering the ship to B.C.

The journey will include stops for refueling in Santa Cruz, Canary Islands and Panama City, Panama, after transiting the Panama Canal and sailing up the west coast of North America to British Columbia.

Salish Eagle, BC Ferries’ second dual-fuel vessel, is scheduled to arrive in B.C. in April for crew training and familiarization. The ship is scheduled to start service in the Southern Gulf Islands in the summer.

BC Ferries will take final acceptance and ownership of Salish Eagle upon final inspection once the vessel arrives in B.C.

Like its sister ships, the Salish Eagle is a 107-meter Salish class ship capable of carrying 145 vehicles and up to 600 passengers and crew. The vessel features two car decks and has a service speed of 15.5 knots. Each ship in the series is powered by three Wartsila 8L20DF engines.
