Blue Water Shipping Wins Big Siemens Gamesa Deal

Blue Water Shipping has won a contract with Siemens Gamesa for the loadout and pre-shipment transfer and preparation of turbine components for four offshore wind projects.

The Danish company will be carrying out the scope for the Hohe See, Albatros and Borssele 1&2 projects in the North Sea and the Coastal Virginia wind farm off the U.S. east coast.

The four projects consist of 183 wind turbines in total, which are being loaded onto installation vessels and shipped out of Esbjerg.

First shipments out of a total of 47 have been completed, and the work will continue for the rest of the year and in 2020, BWS said.

“We are very pleased and proud of being entrusted with this assignment by Siemens Gamesa Offshore,” said Søren Messmann, BWS Head of Operation, Port Services.

“It is a very important project for us and contributes to maintaining and strengthening our position within logistics and stevedoring to the wind turbine industry.”

Hohe See will comprise 71 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines, with Albatros set to feature 16 units of the same type. Borssele 1&2 will consist of 94 Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines and Coastal Virginia of two Siemens Gamesa 6-MW SWT-6.0-154 units.
