Boskalis and Züblin Join Offshore Terminal Bremerhaven Project

Dutch dredging specialist Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. and Germany’s Züblin AG have won a contract to prepare the site for the construction of the Offshore Terminal Bremerhaven (OTB), a 25-hectare transshipment terminal for the offshore wind sector.

Bremenports awarded the contract to the two companies at the end of last week, Boskalis told Offshore WIND.

Boskalis’ share of the contract carries a value of more than EUR 35 million.

As part of the contract, the company will dredge three million cubic meters of sand, as well as carry out soil improvement and rock revetment works. The activities are expected to commence at the end of 2016 and will take two years.

Züblin will be in charge of the civil works within the project, Boskalis said.

Located on the banks of the Weser, OTB is scheduled for completion by 2018. Bremenports has been entrusted with overall management of the project, from the search for an operating company, to the technical construction planning, right through to the design and implementation of compensation measures.

The total costs of the infrastructure are expected to be in the region of EUR 180 million and are to be funded by the Federal Land of Bremen.
