Bureau Veritas has signed the classification contract with China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s two shipyards chosen to build CMA CGM’s 22,000 TEU LNG-fueled box ships.

The deal was signed with Jiangnan Changxing Shipbuilding (Hudong Zhonghua) and Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Heavy Industry (SWS), Bureau Veritas said on Tuesday.

The classification society previously informed it has been chosen by the French shipping line CMA CGM for the classification of its vessels, after it had been involved in the project since the feasibility studies, working with the owner, builders and technology providers.

The new ships will have a bunker capacity close to 18,000 cubic meters (cbm) and this represents a significantly higher volume than has been required in the LNG fuelled ship market.
