Busy Year for Damietta Port

Egypt’s Damietta Port revealed that its ship and cargo traffic saw a significant increase in 2016, compared to the previous year.

Cargo throughput at the port went up by 12 percent in 2016 and rose to 32 million tons from 28.6 million tons in 2015.

The port recorded a 53.1 percent rise in its export cargo volumes in 2016, having handled a total of 11.25 million tons.

Damietta Port handled a total of 810,000 TEUs during the year, against 719,000 TEU in 2015, an increase of 13 percent.

Furthermore, the number of ships calling at Damietta Port increased by 9 percent, amounting to 2,582 vessels last year, compared to 2,368 in 2015.

Covering a total area of 11.8 square kilometers, Damietta Port is located 70 kilometers westwards from the Port Said and 200 kilometers eastwards from the Alexandria Port, the two major ports in Egypt.
