Caley, Umbilicals International join forces

Offshore handling systems specialist Caley Ocean Systems based in the UK and Umbilicals International based in the US have joined forces to offer operators and offshore contractors integrated solutions for the deployment of subsea packages and well intervention systems.

Increased deepwater and ultra-deepwater processing and production, and the high number of mature subsea wells, is driving the demand for subsea intervention. According to the press release, the integrated approach offered by the combined technical and engineering expertise and resource of Caley and Umbilicals International holds the key to maximising the efficiency of intervention operations.

“Flexibility of mobilisation is critical to minimising the time and cost of intervention,” says Gregor McPherson, sales director, Caley Ocean Systems. “Handling systems need to be compact, often modular, with a small deck footprint and able to be readily mobilised to vessels of opportunity.”

Caley Ocean Systems has over 40 years experience in the design and manufacture of offshore handling systems for the oil and gas, offshore renewable energy, oceanographic science and research, and naval rescue markets. It recently announced an IWOCS Deployment System – the second generation of Caley’s topside handling equipment specially designed to provide access to wellheads and manifolds for intervention and workover.

According to Caley, specialist cables and umbilicals offered by Umbilicals International will optimise the performance of Caley’s reel drives and winch systems. “Our cables and umbilicals are used in the main for dynamic, load bearing applications where frequent deployment and recovery of the attached system is required. Working with Caley we are able to increase cable and umbilical service life, reducing the downtime between deployments,” notes Colin Zak, president, Umbilicals International.

Umbilicals International is a manufacturer of special application cables, hoses, umbilicals and related products.
