Cargotec Builds Development Centre for Terminal Equipment (The Netherlands)

On 25 September, construction started on a new building for Cargotec Netherlands at Pier 4. The business is currently still located on the Maashaven. The new office building will house around 150 workers and has a surface area of 3,500 square metres. It is due to be completed by the start of 2014.

In addition, a workshop of a good 6,000 square metres is under construction for products of the various Cargotec brands such as Hiab, Kalmar and MacGregor.

High standards

The Port Authority is highly pleased with Cargotec’s decision, because this company, with its high-value activities, strengthens the maritime/logistics services cluster under development around the Waalhaven. The business in Rotterdam is being expanded as the worldwide centre for development and sales of container cranes, which are actually built in China. The company recently scored a significant business success with the order for the delivery of ten quay cranes for the new APM terminal on Maasvlakte 2. Cargotec managed to trump the Chinese market leader on this job.

Nelcon was acquired several years ago by the Swedish Kalmar, which in turn was acquired by the Finnish Cargotec, itself having come about in the past years through a series of mergers and takeovers. With a turnover exceeding three billion euros, it is one of the world’s largest suppliers of terminal equipment.
