China: Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding Exceeds Annual Output of One Million DWT

Recently the two units of 27,000 DWT MPP vessels with Name “Fu Rong Song” and “Lian Hua Song”,  constructed for COSCO, were successfully delivered. So far, shipyard has achieved the target of One Million Deadweight output established for this year, e.g. the new record has been carved in shipyard development history, in advance.

Founded in earlier 1970s, the shipyard annual output in DWT always kept static at 300,000 DWT. Shipyard’s production ability has been rapidly developed after the MOB in 2007 and the set-up of Yong’an New Facilities. Till end of this year, shipyard has delivered 20 units of newbuilding vessels with total deadweight of 1.15 Million, which constitute 38.6% increase on year-on-year basis. It took less than two years time to leap from annual 500,000 DWT Output to One million. Among those delivered vessels in 2011, there are Seven units of 92,500 DWT Bulk Carrier, Seven units of 57,000 DWT Bulk Carrier, Three units of 27,000 DWT Multi-purpose Vessel, Two units of 42 Car/960 Passengers Ferry and One of 10,000 DWT Heavy Lift Vessel.

The reason of such rapid-increased production output relies on: the implementation of Shipyard Culture Concept “observe contracts, by reputation and seek win-win; honor technology, stringent management to pursue development; People-oriented, care for staff and reciprocate society”; moderate enlargement of production scale; the execution of precise shipbuilding to shorten the building period; harmonious relation with domestic and abroad owners, Classification Societies and Equipment Makers, which resulted in non-delayed delivery and non-guaranteed claim in recently years. Accompanying with the continuous improvement of staff’s quality, shipyard focused on worker’s living standard as well. Shipyard also actively engaged in public-service activities, which created a sound atmosphere for shipyard sustainable development.

The two units of 27000 DWT MPP vessel delivered this time are the 6th & 7th vessel built for COSCO among their total of ten ordered.
