China watchdog probes Sinopec

China’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) has launched an inspection into China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec Group), Reuters has reported today, quoting Xinhua news agency.

According to the news agency, the CCDI’s inspectors will focus on senior executives who may be promoted to leadership roles within Sinopec, a state-owned petroleum and petrochemical enterprise group. Further quoting Xinhua, Reuters has reported that the inspection will be completed within a month.

The investigation is part of a wide-scale anti-corruption campaign by China’s President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, Xi Jinping, who has warned that the problem is a threat to the Communist Party’s survival.

Also, as part of the world’s most populous nation’s war on corporate crime, one of China National Offshore Oil Company’s (CNOOC) senior officials has earlier this month been suspected of receiving bribes.
