Diving Support Vessel Samudra Sevak owned by ONGC in for major lay-up repairs. The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation India owned specialised Diving Support vessel calls Colombo for major Layup repairs during late October 2013, while Siem Offshore, Norway owned Siem Sasha was handled successfully during the fourth quarter 2013.

Colombo has been a strategic repair hub for a wide spectrum of vessels, from Tankers to Dredgers to Offshore Support Vessels, Mobile Offshore Drill units to Diving Support Vessels. The Colombo Dockyard PLC established in 1974 has grown to be an international player providing world class repair services / shipbuilding to wide client base over the past 3 decades. The shipyard celebrated 20 years of successful operation in joint collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd. Japan in March 2013.

The proven track record of Colombo Dockyard as reputed ship repair facility paved the way for securing of the specialised project of major lay-up and drydocking and repair of Diving Support vessel Samudra Sevak. The diving support vessels are specialised vessels utilised in the offshore oil exploration sites in the global arena. These vessels are fitted with highly sophisticated dynamic positioning systems; saturation diving system equipped with a diving bell and related operating systems.

The DSV Samudra Sevak currently undergoing lay-up repairs in the yard after completing majority of her underwater scope, she was accommodated in drydock No. 01 directly on arrival. She was re docked in Dock No. 04 (125,000 DWT) for final stage of her repairs / testing.

Colombo Dockyard has mobilised an experienced repair team on the project for smooth re-delivery of the vessel meeting the client’s and classification’s requirements, in this significant breakthrough project. The project is headed by Mr. Priyanka Cooray – Ship Manager.

The company have achieved these significant milestones in a short span of time under the visionary leadership of Mr. A. Nakauchi –Chairman and Mr. Mangala Yapa – Managing Director / CEO. The commercial department has worked tirelessly headed by Mr. Kithsiri Nayakaratne – General Manager (Commercial) to secure / manage these complex projects successfully.

The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. Mumbai, are the managers to the project, while the owners are Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. India. The husbanding work on this project is handled by Asha Agencies Ltd.
