Croatia - Brodosplit Starts Construction of Heavy Lift Vessel Ordered by Jumbo Shipping

At the Brodosplit shipyard, on March 26th 2012, the steel cutting ceremony for Newbuilding 473 was successfully held. It is a heavy lifter for transportation of heavy or large size cargo, contracted for the Dutch heavy lift Shipping Company Jumbo Shipping.

Jumbo Shipping is one of the world’s leading shipping company for transportation of heavy or large size cargo, and this ship contracted and being built in the Brodosplit shipyard will be the largest in their fleet.

The new vessel will have a length of 152.60m and a beam of 27.40m and is equipped with 2x 1.100mt cranes (at 27.5m outreach). Deadweight in draft of 8.1m will be 14.000 tons. Speed ​​of 17 knots will ensure two engines, each of 4500 kW at 750 r/min.

To be able to work in Arctic regions, the vessel is to be built under ice class. For offshore operations the vessel will be prepared for future DP2 installation. The ship will be built in Lloyd’s Register Class and delivery is planned in the first half of the 2013th.

Heavy lift vessels are sophisticated vessels they are not built in Croatian shipyards. It is about a market that represents strategic goal of the Brodosplit.
