Daewoo Inks $ 422 Mln Contract for Three Boxships

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has signed a contract to build three new containerships for an unnamed Asian owner.

The contract is estimated to be worth around $422 million, according to the KRX regulatory filling. The delivery of the vessels should be completed by August 2015.

DSME boasts the world’s leading technology and competitiveness in building ships such as LNG carriers, Ultra Large Container Vessels, Ultra Large Crude Carriers, large LPG carriers, car carriers etc. In 2001, DSME built and delivered 3 ultra-large container ships of the 8,500 TEU-class. Powered by 93,000 hp engines, these vessels can navigate at a maximum speed of 27-knots. Since then, the company has constructed high quality container ships of various sizes up to 14,000 TEU.
