DeepOcean bags marine operations gig on Snorre expansion project

DeepOcean has been awarded a contract by Statoil for performing marine operation scope on the Snorre expansion project in the North Sea off Norway.

The award covers project management, engineering, procurement of anchors for risers and umbilicals and offshore installation activities, DeepOcean said on Thursday.

The offshore work includes installation of six integrated subsea template structures and manifolds, and installation of riser systems and umbilical systems on the Snorre A production platform, the company added.

The onshore project team will work out of DeepOcean’s offices in Haugesund and Stavanger, Norway. Offshore execution will be performed with DeepOcean’s construction vessel Edda Freya in 2019 and 2020.

DeepOcean’s Commercial Director for Subsea Services, Rolf Ivar Sørdal, said: “The Snorre Expansion Project is one of the key development projects ongoing in the North Sea and we are pleased that Statoil has selected DeepOcean as their contractor for these demanding subsea operations.”

Statoil, as the operator of the project, in December submitted the plan for development and operation of the Snorre expansion project to the Norwegian authorities. The oil company also awarded contracts related to the project worth up to NOK 9 billion.

Namely, TechnipFMC was awarded a contract for the subsea production system, Subsea 7 for fabrication and installation of the pipeline bundle system, Aibel for modification work on Snorre A platform, and Transocean was awarded a rig contract.

The development project consists of three development parts: Subsea templates, upgrades on the Snorre A platform, as well as import of gas to improve oil recovery from the field. The project is set to start production in 2021.
