Drydocks World completes Prelude FLNG turret

Dubai’s Drydocks World said it has completed the world’s largest turret mooring system for Shell’s Prelude FLNG.

At almost 100 meters high, weighing over 11,000 tons and with a diameter of 26 meters, the turret will ensure the Prelude floating liquefied natural gas  facility can operate safely in the most extreme weather conditions, Drydocks World said in a statement on Sunday.

This FLNG storage and production facility will be located at the Prelude gas field off the northwest coast of Australia.

Drydocks World has constructed the turret for SBM Offshore, Technip and Shell.

The company has delivered 5 modules for the Shell FLNG turret mooring system and delivery of module 5 represents the completion of this project, with the turret being the heart of the Prelude FLNG.

The Prelude FLNG  is currently being built at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoje, Korea.

It will be the largest floating offshore facility in the world, measuring 488 metres from bow to stern and weighing around 600,000 tonnes when fully loaded.
