Dunkirk LNG receives second cargo

France’s fourth liquefied natural gas import terminal in the port of Dunkirk received its second commissioning cargo of LNG.

Teekay’s 140,500-cbm LNG carrier Hispania Spirit docked at the Dunkirk LNG terminal on Thursday carrying a cargo from Peru’s only export facility at Pampa Melchorita, according to the shipping data from the Dunkirk port.

The data previously showed that the Shell-managed 136,600-cbm LNG carrier Galea was expected to dock at the French terminal on September 9, however, the tanker seems to have delivered a cargo from Peru to Spain’s Cartagena LNG terminal.

The Dunkirk LNG terminal was initially set to receive its second commissioning cargo on August 7 onboard the 145,000-cbm Methane Rita Andrea, also loaded with a Peruvian cargo.

However, the cargo had been postponed to the first half of September after an incident at the facility during the testing phase in July.

Send-out tests from the Dunkirk LNG terminal resumed in August.

According to the latest data from Dunquerque LNG, the operator of the import facility, the terminal’s daily send-out rate is expected to be between 0 and 50 GWh in the next 10 days.

The Dunkirk LNG terminal will have an annual regasification capacity of 13 billion cbm of gas, enough to cover about 20 percent of France and Belgium’s yearly gas consumption.

Dunkirk LNG is 65 percent owned by EDF, 25 percent by Fluxys and 10 percent by Total.
