Eco Friendly Solutions Offered at Posidonia

The focus in protection of the environment and human lives, have become the most important aspects of the maritime industry. The players in the industry now focus on operating their vessels in a safe and environmentally friendly manner throughout the life span of vessels.

Eco Friendly Solutions to Be Discussed at PosidoniaThe IMO 2009 Hong Kong Convention and the newly ratified EU regulations (Oct 2013), will enforce green recycling in certified shipyards over the next few years.

The new regulation requires that all new vessels develop an Inventory of Hazardous Material (IHM) onboard.

It will be mandatory for the recycling yard to prepare a generic ship recycling facility plan outlining the procedures and processes for handling disposal of hazardous materials.

The new regulations have changed the way vessels are being managed and operated. They set new challenges for owners, charterers, and managers who want to step forward and make the difference.

Two companies, EPE S.A. and Wilhelmsen Ship Management have been championing and preparing themselves in advance.

Through this seminar, they will present various services in compliance with recent rules and regulations during the Posidonia 2014 Exhibition.

The seminar’s agenda will include the following topics:  Preparation of Inventory of Hazardous Materials;  Hazardous materials and wastes management;  Green ship recycling and Lay-up solutions;

The key note speakers at the seminar will be Mr. Fotis Ploumitsakos Naval Architect & Mechanical Engineer (EPE – Environmental Protection Engineering S.A.), and Mr. Rakesh Bhargava Head – Lay-up, Green Recycling and IHM Services (Wilhelmsen Ship Management).

The seminar will be held on Thursday, June 5, at 17:00.
