Empresa Naviera Elcano Orders Two Bulk Carriers

Spanish owner and operator of tankers, gas carriers and bulk carriers Empresa Naviera Elcano has placed an order for two 121,000 dwt bulk carriers at Sinopacific Shipbuilding of China.

The two bulkers are scheduled for delivery in 2017. The value of the contract was not disclosed.

Empresa Naviera Elcano currently owns and operates a fleet of five bulk carriers, seven chemical and product tankers, three LPG carriers, two LNG carriers, and one asphalt carrier.

With the latest order, the company now has six vessels on order, including two 178,000 LNG carriers currently under construction at Japan’s Imabari Shipbuilding and scheduled for delivery in 2017, one bulk carrier ordered at China’s Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding Industry and expected for delivery in 2015, and one 13,000 dwt oil/chemical tanker being constructed by Ningbo Xinle Shipbuilding, scheduled for delivery in 2016.
