China began its first saturation diving experiment near the shore of Shenzhen yesterday.

The Shanghai Salvage Company announced that China has a goal to reach 300 meters under water. According to Xinhua, the preparations for the dive have already started.

The experiment will begin on January 12, and the divers will stay under water for about 17 days.

This is the first time China is conducting such an experiment at sea. The earlier experiments were conducted only in laboratories.
