FKAB works on Stena Line’s conversion project

FKAB said it has been working on a conversion project of Stena Line’s M/S Stena Germanica.

To fulfill the new SECA requirements on a vessel, which is trading in protected area, Stena chose M/S Stena Germanica, as the first ship, to be converted to run on methanol as the main fuel, FKAB informed in a statement.

According to the company, the 240 m long Stena Germanica’s four engines will also be able to run of liquefied natural gas.

FKAB has been involved throughout the design period and the company participated in several HAZIDs, since there are up to now no clear rules for methanol operation at sea.

The company developed and designed arrangements and fuel systems and other related supply systems along with Scandinaos and other subcontractors. FKAB also developed the structural changes needed for the conversion and periodically inspected work during the conversion period.
