Gallery: MSC Seaside Christened in Miami with a Bang

Yesterday was a big day for MSC Cruises as the famous Italian actor Sophia Loren christened MSC Seaside, the new flagship for MSC Cruises, in Miami.

Now that the ship has been officially named it is ready to sail the Caribbean Sea. Namely, MSC Seaside will sail year-round from Miami to the Caribbean offering 7-night eastern and western Caribbean itineraries starting December 23 2017.

During the official presentation on MSC Seaside, the company also announced that MSC  Meraviglia will come to North America in 2019.

MSC Meraviglia is the first of the company’s six new ships due to come into service between 2017 and 2020 and was delivered in June this year from STX France shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.

In order to host the 5,170 passenger MSC Seaside, Miami-Dade County and MSC Cruises have just completed the overhaul of the cruise Terminal F, which has seen some capital improvements over the past two years.

MSC Cruises took delivery of the ship from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri in Trieste on November 29.

With a gross tonnage of 154,000 tons, the ship is 323 meters long and 41 meters wide. It will be able to carry 5,179 passengers and 1,413 crewmembers.

Its sister ship, MSC Seaview, is slated for delivery in June 2018, according to data provided by VesselsValue.
