GMH to Deliver Davit Cranes for Beatrice OTMs

Babcock has awarded a contract to Granada Material Handling (GMH) to design, manufacture, deliver and commission 2 davit crane units for the Beatrice offshore wind project.

One Python’crane unit will be fitted to each of the 2 OTM (Offshore Transformer Modules) being supplied by Babcock on behalf of Siemens.

Each Python crane unit measures approximately 4m in height, 4.5m in radius, and weighs 2,000kg. The maximum lifting capacity of 1,600kg is needed to hoist the heavier serviceable components from the supply vessel to the lay-down area on the OTM foundation platform.

Granada Material Handling is already looking to place orders and sub-contract specialist areas of work to other UK businesses, and will deliver the crane units over a 6-month period.

Mark Sidwell, director of Granada Material Handling Ltd, said: “The BOWL contract is not only great news for Granada but also for our UK based supply chain. Granada has ambitious plans for this market sector and having supplied over 750 offshore davits is one of Europe’s leading offshore wind farm davit crane suppliers.’’
