GTT tech ordered for Teekay LNG newbuilds

GTT, French designer of membrane containment systems for the maritime transportation and storage of LNG, received a new order for two liquefied natural gas carriers.

These new ships will be built by the Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, the company said in a statement.

The LNGCs, to be owned and operated by Teekay, are expected to be delivered in 2019 and will feature the Mark III Flex technology.

Teekay recently signed 13-year time-charter contract with BP for one fuel-efficient 174,000 cubic meter LNG carrier newbuilding, plus an option. In connection to this, the company ordered two LNG carriers with an option to order one additional vessel, Teekay said.

The vessels, including the optional vessel if exercised, will primarily provide LNG transportation services for BP’s LNG volumes from the Freeport LNG project located on Quintana Island near Freeport, Texas.
