HHI Splashes Second Incheon-Class Frigate

Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard, headquartered in Ulsan, Seoul, South Korea, launched on Thursday the second Incheon-class FFX coastal defence vessel, dubbed Gyeonggi, owned by the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN), Yonhap News Agency reported.

The 2,300t frigate forms part of the Navy’s fleet modernization programme aimed at replacing outdated Pohang-class corvettes and Ulsan-class frigates.

Measuring in length some 374 feet, the frigate can achieve a speed of 30 knots.

With the complement of 170 crew, the vessel will be engaged in multi-role operations such as coast patrol, anti-submarine warfare and transport support, in addition to anti-air and anti-submarine warfare.
