Hong Kong Ferry Crash Leaves 36 Dead

According to a government statement from this morning, 36 people were confirmed to have died in a ferry collision off Hong Kong that occurred at about 8:30 p.m. yesterday. What is more, 9 persons out of over a hundred people who were hospitalized had sustained grave injuries, the New York Times reports.

A ferry with 120 people onboard was hit by another vessel, while heading to a fireworks display in Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbor anent marking of China’s National Day and it quickly sank.

Rescue operations are still underway at the site since there are reasons to believe that some persons might be missing or are still trapped inside the vessel.
