HT, GL Team Up for Construction of Dual-Fuel LNG Powered Vessel

Recently Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co., Ltd signed a technical cooperation contract for the first 50K DWT dual-fuel LNG powered vessel with GL, Technolog, MAN.

This means that the ship can be operated both with conventional fuels as well as with very environmentally friendly LNG (liquid natural gas). This special purpose vessel shall transport foundations and components used for the erection of offshore wind farms as well as for their maintenance.

Mr Meng, president of HT said, “LNG powered vessel is the strategic goal of Hantong Group in the coming 5 years. This project has been initiated. Hangyu Zhan, General Manager of Jade Werke said, LNG powered vessel will be a hot topic when the ship manufacturing market recovered from recession. HT and Technolog will design the vessel together; GL is responsible for class approval and MAN provides R&D of dual-fuel engine.”

The vessel is created for a future market. It may reduce 33% of pollution emissions. 0.55T carbon dioxide can be cut. LNG not only may meet the requirement of EEDI but also can save 3 million USD costs per year. According to the enlargement of ECA, much more strict limitation of emissions, LNG powered vessel is the best option  for the solution of problem and meeting of IMOTIER III conditions. Methods like low sulfur oil and installing washing tower will be applied to cut the costs and be more environmental friendly.
