Now over 90% Far East services in Rotterdam

Since October 2008 the number of services between the Far East and Northwest Europe declined with eleven. Only two of the present 25 weekly services do not call in Rotterdam: the Japan focussed Grand Alliance service (Benelux call in Amsterdam) and the Lion Service of MSC makes an iirregular Benelux call in Antwerp. The share of Rotterdam of 92% rises further when the total TEU capacity is taken into account.

After the wave of consolidation, Antwerp kept six Far East calls of which 4 are related to shipping lines with local terminal interests. Zeebrugge scores 8 loops of which 6 are attached to terminals of the parents CMA CGM and Maersk Line/APMT. In Rotterdam, 15 of the 23 slings are more or less related to interests in ECT Delta Terminal, Euromax Terminal and APMT Rotterdam. Six services are operated by shareholders in the future Rotterdam World Gateway Terminal on the Second Maasvlakte.
