Shipyard tackles skills shortage

A shipyard in Cumbria is holding a recruitment drive to enlist dozens of new workers.
Up to 60 jobs are being created at BAE systems in Barrow for the fitting out of a Royal Navy nuclear submarine.

Advertisements have now been placed in local job centres in an attempt to plug the urgent need for highly skilled welders and pipe fitters.

It is a boost for the yard which has suffered a number of redundancies in recent years.
