Fuel, containers to be removed from stranded ship

The removal of bunker fuel and containers from the stricken Safmarine Agulhas has began. The vessel ran aground near the East London harbour last week. Previous attempts to refloat the ship have failed.

Salvors began removing containers from the stricken vessel to make it lighter before making a second attempt at refloating it. The National Ports Authority says about half of the bunker fuel from the ship has been removed to make it lighter. It will take two days to remove all the fuel.
