Image of the Day: Helgoland Floated Out

After almost nine months of construction MS Helgoland, a new LNG-fueled ferry of the shipping company Cassen Eils from Cuxhaven, left the building dock of the Fassmer shipyard.

The ferry was floated out on May 12th, and is now going to undergo extensions on its upper deck as well as final touches in the interior. Once these are completed, sea trials of systemically important components of the innovative LNG-drive will take place in the port and at sea.

Helgoland will be the first German flagged marine vessel to operate on LNG as its primary fuel.

MS Helgoland is scheduled to start commercial operations in June 2015, sailing between the ports of Cuxhaven and Helgoland.
