Imperial orders two gas tankers

Duisburg-based Imperial Logistics International said it has ordered two new gas tankers from the Dutch shipbuilder Veka Group in Werkendam.

The two new vessels, suitable for travelling on canals will be able to transport liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and other gaseous products liquefied under pressure, Imperial said in a statement.

The Dutch shipyard is due to deliver the vessels in the second half of 2016. Both new units will replace older gas tankers in the fleet, which will then be removed from service, according to the statement.

The new gas tankers will be used by Imperial Gas Barging GmbH, which currently operates 17 of these vessels.

Both vessels will be equipped with a rudder propeller drive system. This dual-power system requires less fuel and less maintenance than older power units, the statement added.
