Implenia Gets NSN Subsea Link Infrastructure Job

Statnett has commissioned Implenia to carry out infrastructure works for subsea electricity interconnector, the NSN Link.

The NSN link, the world’s longest subsea interconnector, between UK and Norway, is scheduled to be completed by 2021.

The 720 km-long subsea cable will run between Blyth in England and Kvilldal in Norway.

Implenia’s contract, worth around CHF 23 million (nearly NOK 200 million), includes various civil engineering and tunnelling jobs.

These include excavation, blasting and tunnelling (2.4 kilometres), slotted hole drilling, construction of tracks, ditches and converter stations, as well as water, fire, drainage and sewerage systems.

Work is scheduled to start in August 2015 and this part of the total project work should be completed by summer 2017.

NSN Link will have a capacity of 1,400 megawatts, equivalent to the power needed to light 750,000 homes.
