India: Gail May Buy Several LNG Tankers

GAIL CEO B.C. Tripathi

GAIL of India plans to enter liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping segment, primarily to bring in LNG from the planned Sabine Pass LNG export terminal in the US and from the Shtokman project in the Arctic Region, local media reported, citing the company’s CEO B.C. Tripathi as saying.

We are planning to make a foray into the LNG shipping business, mainly for importing gas contracted in the US,” he said.

He also said that the company is planning to either charter six or seven LNG tankers or even buy them.

We will finalise a decision on this in the next three to four months,” he added.
