Governor of Chhattisgarh Tours Goa Shipyard

His Excellency Shri Shekhar Dutt, SM, Governor of Chhattisgarh visited Goa Shipyard Ltd. on 28 July 2013.

During the visit, a presentation was made to the Honorable Governor on the growth of GSL from a barge building yard to a sophisticated shipyard capable of designing and building ships for the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard from concept to commissioning.

The Honorable Governor was given a tour by RAdm (Retd) Vineet Bakhshi VSM, CMD GSL around the shipyard and apprised him of the shipbuilding, ship repair activities and the expertise available at GSL. The Governor was also informed of the modernization programme and progress thereof. The Governor had also visited the Shore Based Test Facility (SBTF) for the MiG 29k and LCA Navy under construction by GSL at INS Hansa on 27th July 2013.

Noteworthy, this was the inaugural visit of Shri Shekhar Dutt, the former Defence Secretary, to the Goa Shipyard since he took over as the Governor of Chhattisgarh.

The Governor expressed satisfaction on GSL’s progress and capability to design and build sophisticated and high value ships and lauded GSL’s efforts aimed at the upgrade of the Shipyard to meet the future defence requirements.
