Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has been awarded important orders to supply DP World’s Jebel Ali Port in Dubai with 125 terminal tractors and 12 empty container handlers.

The orders were booked into Cargotec’s 2014 first quarter order intake with deliveries of the terminal tractors scheduled to be completed by the end of third quarter 2014 and the empty container handlers by the year end.

These orders further demonstrate Kalmar’s growing partnership with DP World at their flagship container port in Dubai, which has experienced another record year with container volumes increasing to 13.6 million TEU in 2013.

The continued expansion of the port, principally through the new Container Terminal 3 facility, the world’s largest semi-automated terminal, will take the total capacity at the port to 19 million TEU in 2014.

Of the 125 Kalmar Ottawa terminal tractors, 104 units feature a fixed fifth wheel with pulling capacity of 85,000kg and 18 units have an elevated fifth wheel for goose neck operation. The Kalmar DCF 80-45E8 empty container handlers have the capacity to handle 8 tonnes and stack 8 containers high. All machines are equipped with remote monitoring signals, enabling them to operate on the semi-automated terminal.

Commenting on the order, Suresh Ananthanarayan, Kalmar Sales Manager, said: “It’s an honour for Kalmar to have the opportunity to play an important role in DP World’s expansion at this prestigious Jebel Ali port. In the past months, Kalmar has been awarded contracts to supply a total of nineteen empty container handlers, two new version Gloria reachstackers and eight forklift trucks to be operational in the Jebel Ali Terminals.”
