Kotug, Boskalis merge harbour towage operations in Europe

Kotug International and Royal Boskalis Westminster on Thursday informed they have finalized the merger of the two companies’ harbour towage operations in Europe. 

The joint operations have been transferred to a 50/50 joint venture between Kotug and Boskalis’ unit Smit, named Kotug Smit Towage, both companies said in a statement.

The operational integration began on Thursday, April 7.

The joint venture will operate a fleet of 65 tugboats in 11 ports in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

Kotug operates in Ports of Bremerhaven, Hamburg, London, Wilhelmshaven and Rotterdam where the Gate LNG terminal is located. Smit also operates in Rotterdam but also in Liverpool, and ports on the river Scheldt in Belgium and the Netherlands through URS.

URS services ports of Antwerp, Ghent, Flushing, Terneuzen, Ostend and Zeebrugge where the Fluxys-operated Zeebrugge LNG terminal is located.
