Marin Teknikk to design DSCV for Ultra Deep

Marin Teknikk has entered into a contract with Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group for delivery of design & engineering of two diving & construction vessels for Ultra Deep Offshore Ltd. in Singapore.

The vessels are a newly developed MT6023 DSCV design, and will be equipped with 18-men diving system for operations down to 300 m water depth.

According to Marin Teknikk, MT6023 DSCV, a diving and construction vessel, will have a length of 103 meters and a breadth of 23 meters, accommodation for 120 persons plus 18 divers, two heave compensated subsea cranes, one 150 ton offshore crane with depth capability to 3000 m water depth, and one 20 ton offshore crane for operation down to 300 m water depth. In addition, the vessels will have an arrangement for 2 WROV’s (unmanned remote-operated submarines/robots) for operation down to 3000 meters water depth.

The vessels will be built by Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group in China, where the first vessel is planned to be delivered mid-2018 and vessel number two at the end of 2018. Vessel number two is to be finally confirmed by the end of April 2016, the company said.

The vessel has 800m2 open work deck area with deck strength of 10 ton/m2 and a smaller storage on top of dive hangar.

“We are very pleased to sign this contract, especially when we see the weak market within the Oil & Gas Industry,” says Svein-Rune Gjerde in Marin Teknikk.

Shel Hutton, CEO of Ultra Deep Offshore, says: “I am pleased by the positive response by oil majors and major diving companies to the design of our diving support vessels, and it affirms our company is heading in the right direction to build quality and size-appropriate vessels catered for the market. The current slowdown in the market allows us time to ensure our designs are optimized and customized for relevance in the oil and gas industry.”

Marin Teknikk also added that this contract would secure work for the 110 engineers in Norway and Poland for parts of 2016 and a bit into 2017.
