The award recognises the port’s outstanding performance and commitment to national security requirements as well as its implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code set by the International Maritime Organization to enhance security of ships and port facilities (PFSP).

The Award was presented by His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Public Works and Chairman of the Higher Committee, to Abdulla Salem Al Muharrami, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Terminals at a ceremony held at Al Raha Beach Hotel that was attended by high profile Abu Dhabi government officials. Covering a land area of 535 hectares, it is located on the North-East tip of Abu Dhabi Island and was named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the former President of the United Arab Emirates. In 2011, Mina Zayed handled 767,000 containers which reflected a 47% increase when compared to 2010. The port’s commercial traffic (excluding cruise ship business and general cargo) will be transferred to Khalifa Port from September 2012 onwards.
